Exhibition – The Dunfermline Story

The Dunfermline Story is an illustrated history of the city. Due for publication in May, the book was funded by the Scottish Book Trust’s Scots Language Publication Grant.
Featuring the artwork of over 40 artists, the book tells the stories of not only the rich and famous, but also those of weavers, inventors, thieves, witches and ghosts!
The book has been researched and written by Colin Maxwell, a Dunfermline based writer and artist best known for his work in DC Thomson’s long running Commando comics. Colin has been creating comics for ten years, specialising in historical characters and events, and has created comic books featuring Mary Queen of Scots, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce.
The exhibition features the work of twelve artists, Grum Murtagh, Pete Renshaw, Paul Tonner, Vicente Alcazar, Julie Campbell, Fran Morton, Steven Ingram, Cara Shanley, Stephen White, Michael Philp, Gary Burley and Colin Maxwell. Some of these artists are new to comics while others have been involved in the industry for many years.
The exhibition provides a taster of the finished book, displaying a variety of art styles and comic pages without the narrative and dialogue text and will be displayed in the community gallery until 13th of April 2024.
