Exhibition – Julie Campbell

Julie Campbell illustrates Julie Campbell sitting cross legged sketching into her sketch book

A self-taught artist based in Markinch, Julie’s joint passion for the outdoors and drawing sees her spending much of her time exploring the wonderful Fife landscape – gathering sketches, photos and wildlife records to inspire her work. Previously a museum curator of natural history, Julie is also passionate about learning about and recording local wildlife, and is keen to share her appreciation of the natural world with others.

All of Julie’s work starts with detailed pencil sketches. She then works digitally, rendering her finished works with bold lines, and a carefully chosen select palette of colours. Julie turns these illustrations featuring her favourite wild faces and spaces into prints, accessories, decorations, and homewares.

Julie is also passionate about the medium of comics, and as well as illustrating stories for others, she writes and illustrates her own original comics. Julie’s comics focus on stories about the physical and emotional journeys that we take throughout our lives, and her love of nature and landscapes often feature heavily in her choice of story and setting.

You can find a selection of Julie’s landscapes in the Community Gallery at Adam Smith Theatre.
