Adam Smith Festival of Ideas

In celebration of Adam Smith’s 300th birthday, we will be hosting Tall Tales from Friday 9 – Sunday 11 June 2023

The annual Adam Smith Festival of Ideas is inspired by the world-renowned economist and philosopher. The festival is led by the Adam Smith Global Foundation, whose aim is to deliver initiatives that will commemorate, and raise awareness of, the role that Kirkcaldy played in Adam Smith’s life. OnFife will be supporting the Tercentenary celebrations with a long weekend filled with Tall Tales!

David Goutcher is a Scottish games developer and author of the children’s book series Spy Quest. His book series was one of the first in the world to incorporate augmented reality technology that enabled the reader to read the book and watch the movie at the same time. Join in this immersive experience at Kirkcaldy Galleries to bring this tale to life!

Each agent will be given a secret password and the clues to solve whilst touring the building. Experience the cutting edge of Augmented Reality software! You only have one hour to complete your mission, will you succeed?

Spy Quest is compatible with Apple and Android devices, please bring these with you on the day to take part.

Come along to Kirkcaldy Galleries to tell some TALL TALES all weekend long with our free drop-in activities. We have something for everyone!

Activities include:

Top Trumps – create a character mask (Children’s Library)

Lego – free play (Children’s Library)

Space Tales Story Trail – find the scenes and create your own story (throughout the building, with character colouring in children’s library)

Adult Drop-in Colouring (Top of the Stairs)


Tall Tales: The Brothers McLeod

CLOSED EVENT – Fife Schools

The Brothers McLeod are author and screenwriter Myles McLeod, and illustrator and animator Greg McLeod – creators of the hilarious Knight Sir Louis series of books. Join them to celebrate Knight Sir Louis with an interactive event packed with drawing, comics, reading aloud in silly voices, and lots and lots of laughs.

Myles and Greg will lead the audience in creating their very own knight characters before writing a comedy adventure for them in six comics panels. You’ll also learn how to draw the Brothers’ Knight Sir Louis character in a step-by-step draw along with Greg.

Known to millions as next-door neighbours, the ever-demanding Christine and long-suffering Beth, Elaine C Smith and Arabella Weir will appear at the newly refurbished Adam Smith Theatre on June 10th.


Robert Peston

Tickets: £10

Robert Peston, an English journalist, presenter, and author.

He is the political editor of ITV News and host of the weekly political discussion show Peston will deliver this year’s Adam Smith Annual Lecture.
