Anna, a young Jewish girl, is too busy with schoolwork and tobogganing to listen to the grown-up's talk of Hitler. War breaks out and the Nazis persecute all Jews and as a result Anna and her family have to escape from Germany. They flee in secrecy away from everything they know as their father is wanted by the Nazis – dead or alive.
