What's ON

Our Collections

Did you know OnFife’s Museums and Galleries has responsibility for well over 110,000 items, including over 1,200 works of art?

These collections form a major part of the social and cultural heritage of Fife and includes irreplaceable material of local, national and international significance.

We show collections in exhibitions at our venues and lend items to other museums in the UK and abroad. Once an item has officially entered the collection we hold it in trust for future generations. With such a large collection, not everything can be on display at once. This means that we also need special storage facilities. Objects need to be kept secure and free from damage, in stable environmentally controlled conditions.

In 2017 we relocated the majority of our collections to our Collections Centre in Glenrothes. Objects can be viewed by appointment, contact museums.enquiries@onfife.com.

We have a small team of staff who look after our collections, but don’t have conservation staff. If repairs are needed, we send items to external conservation specialists.
