Castle fit for a king…made of Lego!

Aberdour Library is delighted to be displaying a scale model of Aberdour Castle – made completely out of Lego!

The model is the result of free workshops run in the community centre – of which the library is part – by Historic Environment Scotland’s Learning & Inclusion team with support from OnFife.

Fiona Davidson, Learning Officer at Historic Environment Scotland, had spotted the OnFife Libraries Kids’ Dens Lego Club being run at Aberdour on Facebook and approached the cultural charity with the idea for this exciting project.

It was a serious task involving blueprints and lots of measuring and the ‘construction’ was led by sculptor Alistair Jelks. In all, it involved 75 members of the public, aged from seven to 70, and took 13 hours to complete.

Sharron Brown, Engagement Co-ordinator for Young People and Families, said: “The castle looks amazing but even better it has been bringing so many people of all ages to the Lego Club to work together.

“The Lego castle will be on display until the start of July and we hope people, and Lego fans in particular, will pop into the library to see it.”

Fiona Davidson said: “We’re so pleased to have worked alongside OnFife and members of the local community in Aberdour to bring this project to life. Not only is the Lego castle a great achievement in itself, it’s also a brilliant example of the wide variety of ways people can engage with and learn about heritage.”
