Philp’s Trust records
These records came from the Fife Council Education Service.
Robert Philp ( b.1751, d.1828) was a successful Kirkcaldy mill owner. He established a trust to fund the education and clothing of children in Kirkcaldy and Kinghorn. The Philp’s Trust opened schools at Kirkcaldy 1830, Pathhead 1832 and Linktown, 1833. In Kinghorn children attended the Burgh School. By the early 1890s the Trust schools had closed. The Trust continued to provide books and clothing to school pupils and bursaries to further education students. For further details see the Kirkcaldy Civic Society booklet Robert Philp by A.B. MacPhedran.
