Peacock Cinema is returning to Dunfermline city centre with a brand new programme celebrating film, dance, Scottish music and our heritage, centred on the centenary of Dunfermline-born actress and ballet dancer Moira Shearer.
The Red Shoes Festival
The Red Shoes Festival celebrates the centenary of the birth of Dunfermline-born actress and ballet dancer Moira Shearer. The Festival will be a summer celebration of Scottish music and dance, centred on Dunfermline’s own Moira Shearer and the cultural places and people connected to her life and legacy.
Special Events
The festival kicks off at 6pm on Friday 31st July with a special dance performance by young dancers from Dunfermline at the Louise Carnegie Gates, followed by a parade led by City of Dunfermline Pipes & Drums to the Carnegie Hall before the screening of The Red Shoes. (Don’t forget to wear your red shoes!). More information can be found on our Eventbrite page.
For the history fans, we’ll be running a FREE James G. Shearer Walk at 2pm on Sunday 2nd August. Come on this walk to find out about Moira’s relations, many of whom helped shape Dunfermline into what it is today. Free tickets available now via Eventbrite.
Film Strands
Our film screenings take place in the iconic auditorium of the Carnegie Hall in the city centre. From dramas and musicals to documentaries and animations, there’s something to suit everyone across our three strands:
Moira Shearer & The Archers
A wonderful centenary celebration of Dunfermline’s own film and ballet star. This strand pays homage to her work alongside Michael Powell and Eric Pressburger’s British films.
Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales
Named after Hans Christian Andersen’s The Red Shoes, journey through the Dane’s fairytales from “deep under the sea” with the Little Mermaid to the shoe-tapping Emperor’s New Groove.
Scottish Music
From Punk at the Pictures to Country music at the Carnegie, this strand takes you through the Scottish music scene. It even includes Dunfermline’s own ‘Story of the Skids’.
