FAQs

How do I know what to ask for?

Check our Collections Development Policy, visit Art UK to explore what we hold or contact us to query about a specific object

How do I book a visit?

Email Museums.Enquiries@onfife.com. Please note we are a small team, and as such, research visits must be booked in advance. Due to the small team’s capacity, it may be several weeks before a research visit is possible. To avoid disappointment, please book as far in advance as possible.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes — just tell us by email at least one week before your visit.

What if the objects need special handling?

Some items are fragile or restricted. We will explain options and may offer another date.

Can I see object files too?

Yes. We can share them during your visit or arrange another appointment.

How many objects can I request?

It depends on their size, fragility and location. Tell us your top priorities.

What happens when I arrive?

Sign in at reception, collect a visitor pass and store bags and coats in lockers. We’ll guide you to the Search Room or store.

What can I use to take notes?

Pencils and personal devices only. If you’d like to draw or take photos, you’ll sign a short permission form.

Will someone show me how to handle the objects?

To help us care for our collections, most items aren’t available for handling. Our staff will bring materials to your desk and guide you through them so you can explore them safely.
