What's ON

Library Updates – updated 23 November 2023

Logging onto the online catalogue with your MyFife card

If you’re using your MyFife Card (you might call it your bus pass) and want to access the catalogue online , just a wee reminder that you only use the first 14 numbers on your card and miss out the last 2 (they are the issue number of your card)

Libby for Amazon Fire Tablets

If you have an Amazon Fire tablet and would like to take advantage of our cracking eBook and eAudiobook offer, the Libby app is now available to download from the Amazon Appstore. All you need to get started is your OnFife library card and your tablet and you’ll have thousands of available titles at your fingertips.

If you don’t already have a library card, you can register here and if you’ve forgotten your PIN number, you can reset it using this link.

If you’ve been using the OverDrive app up until now on your Fire tablet, a wee heads up that it will be removed from the Amazon Appstore on June 7th 2023.  Current users of OverDrive can continue to use it for now, but no new features will be added so we encourage you to make the switch and upgrade to the Libby app.

Just an additional reminder that it’s not possible to download from Libby to a Kindle eBook reader in the UK

Keeping you reading with PressReader

We’ve now switched from Libby to PressReader for our magazine and newspaper provision. To keep your membership current, and to get access to more than 7,000 newspapers and magazines as soon as they hit the shelves, every 30 days you’re asked to login again to reactivate your free access via Fife Libraries – you’ll know when you need to do this as it will start asking you to pay for the service (which you’ll never have to do by the way). Simply click on ‘Sign in’ again and repeat the logging in guidelines. Here’s a wee reminder how to do this Online Resources – OnFife

If you’re intrigued by the idea of all these free magazines and newspapers, you can download the PressReader app, and you’ll be able to create an account to login, browse and borrow using your OnFife library card number and PIN, or you can visit the PressReader website and create an account from there using your library card and PIN. Simply select Fife Cultural Trust from the drop-down list of libraries, input the card details and you’ll be all set. You can reset your PIN from our library catalogue by heading to our online library catalogue Home | OnFife Libraries (spydus.co.uk)

Check out this link for a step-by-step guide on how to register through the PressReader app and the website: https://www.onfife.com/libraries-archives/online-resources/

Still no Overdue Fees

We know how hectic life can be, so there are still no overdue fees if you have books which are late coming back to us.  Instead of fines, we’ll soon be sending you wee reminders just before your books are due to give you a chance to head into a library, drop off your books and pick up another few to keep you going.

4 Week Loans

You can now borrow books for up to 4 weeks instead of 3 – we listened to feedback that said 3 weeks was too short when you had a pile of great books to get through, so a month it is.

If you’re a parent with kids under 12, you can be linked to your children’s library record in our new system, making it a whole lot easier to keep track of what books you’re looking for under their beds or behind the sofa!  You’ll be able to check what everyone’s borrowed from our catalogue and be all set for the search.

Library Catalogue

From our online library catalogue you’ll be able to easily see what you have out on loan and renew anything you want to keep a bit longer. Our previous online catalogue is no longer live so if you had it saved as a favourite or bookmark on your device then please change it to new link. You can place reservations for books and see where you are on the waiting list for really popular titles. And it’s just a nice place to browse through all the gorgeous book jackets and pick your next great read.  It’s the best bookshelf in Fife and it’s all free!

When you spot a title you can’t resist and reserve it, you’ll get an email when it’s arrived at your library and is ready to collect.

If you’re heading away on holiday or need to extend your loans for any other reason, just ask a member of staff – we’re happy to set new return dates for you.

Do we have your email address on file?

To make sure we can keep you up to date with all our exciting news, please ask one of our library team to check we have your current email address on file. You can also check yourself by logging into the library catalogue
