Stories You Can See: Migrant’s Journey on the Map

A creative project that brought personal journeys to life. Initiated and led by Iwona Wrobel, graphic designer, founder of IW Design Studio and Designer in Residence at the Design Suite, winner of the Adam Smith 300 Scholarship through Fife College. The project was developed in collaboration with ESOL students from Fife College and supported by the Design Suite.

Through reflection, meaningful conversations, and shared experiences, participants explored their lives in Scotland, recognising both challenges and progress. Each story was different, yet equally important and valued. The project helped build confidence and empowered participants to take the next steps on their journey.

Their stories were transformed into professionally designed maps – printed, framed, and presented during a final session with invited guests, where ESOL students shared their personal journeys, creating a meaningful and emotional conclusion to the project. 

Participants reflected on the importance of focusing on positive moments, describing feeling stronger, proud, confident, and brave.
