Always a big highlight for families, OnFife Libraries’ Weekends With The Family (WWTF) are back in person this weekend – and with it being Halloween, there’s more than a little spooky fun in store.
While there have been activities online during the pandemic, this is the return of WWTF to Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries (DCL&G) and Kirkcaldy Galleries and there’s a great interactive programme lined up for children aged five and over.
This year the spookiness has a science twist, with Professor Hannah from Mini Professors leading the way. Children will get to do experiments along with Professor Hannah in this 45-minute fun, educational and interactive event. Those attending also get to take away their own experiment to try at home – included in their £5 ticket price.
There will also be free crafts in the children’s library of DCL&G and Kirkcaldy Galleries, with Halloween masks to colour in or take home to decorate. Both venues also have Halloween Scavenger hunts in the buildings, making it the perfect opportunity for a great day out.
And for those with younger children, DCL&G is also offering two Bookbug sessions in the Gallery space, where you can enjoy an Explore! Travellers and Trailblazers themed session at 10.30am and 2.30pm – contact the library to book as spaces are limited.
And, of course, there will also be a fun-packed programme on OnFife Virtual LibrarYAY this weekend too, with face painting tutorials from Face This Way and a brilliant multi-sensory story from author Gill White.
“It’s great to see the return of Weekends With The Family to DCL&G and Kirkcaldy Galleries and to welcome our families back for these fun and educational events,” said Sharron Brown, OnFife’s Service Development Officer for Young People.
Our Halloween events have always been popular and this year’s Spooky Science with Mini Professors is going to be pretty spook-tacular too!
“There’s always a fantastic buzz in the libraries on these weekends as there’s many free activities going on as well. There really is something for the whole family to get their teeth into this Halloween.”
There will be two paid WWTF sessions at DCL&G on Saturday (1-1.45pm and 2.15-3pm) and two at Kirkcaldy Galleries on Sunday (1-1.45pm and 2.15-3pm).
Booking is essential as spaces are limited – children under eight must be accompanied by an adult. The event costs £5 per child, which includes a science experiment to take home. For details and to book, go to www.onfife.com.
