Shortlisted ONFife sisters keep it in the family

24 January 2020

Two ONFife Libraries staff have been shortlisted for the same national award – and Val O’Connell and Lorna Baxter are keeping it in the family because they’re sisters.

Both from Kirkcaldy, Val, a service development supervisor in the Young People’s Team, and cultural services assistant Lorna, are in the running for the Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug Hero Award.

Neither knew that they’d separately been nominated by Bookbug families and colleagues until they heard this week that both had been shortlisted.

It is well deserved recognition for the siblings as both are power forces behind delivering Bookbug sessions at Kirkcaldy Galleries and at local schools and nurseries.

“We are delighted that both have been shortlisted,” said Maggie Gray, Young People’s service development team leader. “They are legendary for their story-telling and enthusiasm for sharing their love of stories and books with young children – and their parents – at our Bookbug sessions.” The winners of the Bookbug Awards will be announced at the end of April.
