Fife Reading Challenge
Library teams across Fife have created our very own challenge that’s not just for kids but for everyone! Set your own reading goals, discover books you never would have read, and have lots of FUN along the way. The challenge runs 20 June – 31 August.
Join the library
Joining is free and simple. With your library card, you can borrow books, enjoy digital resources, use public PCs and explore our local history collections.

When are OnFife Libraries open?
Opening hours vary across our libraries. You can check the times for your nearest branch on our website.
What services can I use at the library?
You can browse and borrow books, use public computers, print or photocopy, and pick up hearing‑aid batteries. Many libraries also offer local history resources and events.
How do I join the library?
It’s free and easy. You can join online or pop into your local library and our team will help you sign up.
Can I borrow and return books at any library?
Yes. You can return your books to any OnFife library, even if you borrowed them from a different branch.
Do you charge overdue fines?
No. Overdue fines on books are currently waived, so you won’t receive a fine if your books are late.
How do I request a book?
You can request books through our online catalogue. You’ll need a library membership to place a request.
Can I access local and family history resources?
Yes. Our libraries offer access to Local and Family History Collections. You can explore these in selected branches. We also have dedicated Local and Family History sections at Cupar Library, Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries and Kirkcaldy Galleries.
Do you have warm spaces in libraries?
Yes. Selected libraries provide free warm spaces where you can relax, read, chat, play games or enjoy a free hot drink.
What if I can’t visit the library in person?
We offer Mobile and Home Delivery Services so you can still enjoy books and resources from home.
How do I visit the Archives?
The Archives search room at Bankhead, Glenrothes is open by appointment. Email us at archive.enquiries@onfife.com to book a visit.
Using a MyFife card as your library card?
If you’re using your MyFife Card (you might call it your bus pass) and want to access Libby or PressReader, you only have to use the first 14 numbers on your card and can miss out the last 2 (they are the issue number of your card). The number is underneath your name at the top, not the bottom number.
Why do I have to log into PressReader every month?
The type of licence we have (that ensures that we can keep our access free for users) runs out/renews every month, but can be renewed by logging in again or detaching then reattaching your library card to your account.
