Popular OnFife children’s reading service returns this autumn

22 September 2026 1 min read

OnFife is relaunching an upgraded popular service which supports and encourages reading for children.

The new and improved Junior Reading Group service allows schools, libraries and community groups to offer book groups, class sets, paired reading and other reader development initiatives to support reading skills and confidence in children, mostly of primary school age.

Sharron Brown, Engagement Co-ordinator (Young People and Families), said: “Reading Group sets have always been popular with our schools but we knew the service needed upgrading to make it sustainable and fit in with our own ambitions for reading initiatives.

“The Junior Reading Group service is a powerful tool to help enhance the reading experience for young people and we’re delighted to be relaunching it for our schools and communities. There are still areas for continued development and we look forward to seeing how the service adapts and grows over the next few years.”

As well as ordering now being possible online through the OnFife Library Catalogue, improvements to the service include digital titles and information on themes that could help with curriculum topics.
