What's ON

Online comedy café promises to be the perfect pick-me-up

20 January 2021

Eateries are out of bounds and laughs have been hard to come by of late, so what’s not to like about an online comedy café?

Grab yourself a drink, snatch some snacks from the cupboard and get set to savour a great night in with some laugh-out loud performers.

The café is the latest online event to be staged as part of the #ShineOnFife programme – OnFife’s positive response to its venues having to close during lockdown.

Sit yourself down for some of the best stand-up around and raise your own roof with a seriously funny show hosted by comedian and actor Raymond Mearns.

Joining him will be three acts who had been going down a storm before Scotland’s comedy scene was short-circuited last March – Ray Bradshaw, Jay Lafferty and John Ross.

OnFife’s Programme Manager, Verdi Clark, said: “Our monthly comedy cafés built a loyal audience prior to lockdown, packing them in at Carnegie Hall, Rothes Halls and Adam Smith Theatre, so this is a great opportunity to share some laughs, support performers and stay connected.”

The virtual curtain goes up at 8pm on Friday, 29 January. Tickets are £5 and are valid for one device per household. The show is suitable for age 16+ and it lasts one hour.

The event is supported by Creative Scotland with funding from the Scottish Government and further shows will follow if the demand is there.

OnFife’s Director of Creative Development, Michelle Sweeney, added: “Our venues may have shut, but our services haven’t stopped and ShineOnFife is transforming how we engage with our audiences. There’s been a fantastic response to the comedy cafe and we hope it will be the first of many.”

Ticket holders will only be able to view the performers and will not be able to see their fellow audience members.

Tickets do not require printing off at home. Details of how to join the Fife Comedy Club will be sent via email before the event starts.
