Last chance to bid for a piece of Fife theatre history with theatre chairs

28 March 2022

The last of the old theatre chairs saved as part of the refurbishment of the Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy, are open for bids in the second planned auction.

You can have your very own part of history with seats from the theatre’s main auditorium up for grabs in a ‘silent auction’.

But you best be quick, there’s only five chairs left – a set of three and a set of two. Check out our auction page here for all the details, FAQs, photos of the lots and bidding forms.

Every winning bid will help an OnFife campaign to raise £10,000 to open up the excitement of theatre to even more people at all venues through the creation of resources for people with neurodiverse conditions and with visual and hearing impairments.

While the chairs have lost none of their showbiz appeal, bidders should be aware they have served audiences well. They’re not pristine by any means but that also adds to their charm.

The Adam Smith Theatre is currently undergoing a major Fife Council capital investment programme and will reopen in 2023.

“We were delighted to make so many people happy with the first auction just before Christmas and this is the last chance to own a piece of theatre history,” said Michelle Sweeney, Director of Creative Development.

“It is also a great opportunity to show your support for our theatres, which have been so badly hit by the pandemic while at the same time helping to broaden accessibility. We urge you to dig deep to help us reach our target so that together we can truly broaden access to the magic of theatre for those to whom it’s less accessible. Happy bidding and good luck!”

The auction will run until midnight on Sunday 10 April. Find out more at https://www.onfife.com/venues/adam-smith-theatre/adam-smith-chair-auction/
