Hit exhibition returns as The WonderStore 2
Visitors to Methil Heritage Centre can take another step back in time to the High Street’s glory days with its latest exhibition, The WonderStore 2, which opened this week.
Following on from last year’s hit Wonder Store exhibition, which attracted more than 800 visitors, The WonderStore 2 brings together another unique collection of works by a stellar collective of artists.
The Wonder Store dominated Methil’s High Street, and shopping culture, for decades from the 1930s. It was a huge department store with something for everyone – furniture, clothing, floor-covering, DIY and much more, attracting shoppers from all over Fife and beyond.
Even more artists with a Fife connection have contributed to the new exhibition, curated by Robert Mach, including Mike Inglis, Marion Smith, Keiko Mukaide, Simon Ward, Alan Wylie, Reinhard Beherns, Eleanor Livingstone (with poems read by actor Clive Russell), John Houston, Jim Barclay, Julie Brooks and Caroline Walker.
The artists have collaborated with the OnFife team and resident Heritage Centre volunteers to bring together another unique collection of works which, like the department store in its day, offers something for everyone.
The exhibition will again be enhanced by a programme of workshops, talks and activities for the public and schools to encourage participants to explore the themes of industry, nature and coastal structures, class and nurture.
And an artists’ open day takes place on Sunday (14 June) from 11am-3pm when most of the artists featured will be around to chat with visitors about their work.
The free exhibition is supported by OnFife and Relevance Levenmouth.

The WonderStore2 is at Methil Heritage Centre until 29 August – the centre is open Wednesday to Saturday, see www.onfife.com for opening times.
