Green Libraries Week 2026
Go Green with OnFife this Green Libraries Week!
From Wednesday 21 to Wednesday 28 October, OnFife Libraries will be celebrating Green Libraries Week 2026, an annual campaign highlighting the role libraries play in supporting climate action, sustainability and greener communities.
This year’s theme, Climate Facts for a Greener Future: Navigating Mis- and Disinformation in Libraries, gives us the perfect opportunity to explore environmental issues, share reliable information and, most importantly, have some fun along the way!
Throughout the week, our libraries will host a range of events and activities for all ages, alongside special book displays highlighting environmental and sustainability themes.

Meet Mabel the Cow!
Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries | 21 to 25 October
Get ready to meet Mabel the Cow, PeachyKeen’s most electrifying cow!
Produce your own renewable energy, crank up the power and then Whack-A-Moo! Race against the clock to hit as many flashing buttons as possible in 30 seconds.
Play solo or challenge your friends and family in this fast-paced, human-powered reaction game. It’s family-friendly, drop-in and lots of fun.

Get creative with origami
Kirkcaldy Galleries | 22 October
Jess from The Ricketty Desk joins us for two fantastic origami workshops, one for children and one for adults.
Children can discover how to transform simple sheets of paper into colourful fish and fantastic boats, while adults will create beautiful treasure boxes for special keepsakes.
Both workshops complement our family-friendly Coast exhibition and offer a creative way to explore recycling and reusing materials.
Places can be booked through the OnFife events page.

Pop-in & Play
Our younger visitors aren’t forgotten either!
There will be Play on Wheels sessions at Rosyth Library and Methil Library on 22 October, while the 50 Things Team will bring their Pop-up Play session to Leslie Library on 26 October.

A very special book launch
We’re also delighted to be hosting the launch of Goodnight Silver, the brand-new book from bestselling children’s author Abi Elphinstone.
This closed primary school event is one of our Fife Reading Challenge prizes and fits perfectly with Green Libraries Week. As well as celebrating the joy of reading and writing, the event will encourage children to be curious, courageous and compassionate about nature.

Explore climate change with Climate Fresk
Cadham Library | 27 October
To round off our programme, Greener Kirkcaldy, as part of the Fife-wide partnership Climate Action Fife, will bring Climate Fresk to Cadham Library.
This interactive session gives adults aged 18+ the opportunity to work together to explore the science, causes and effects of climate change, encouraging discussion and a greater understanding of one of the biggest issues facing our planet.
Get involved
Whether you’re interested in books, bees, recycling, crafts, play or climate change, there’s something to discover during Green Libraries Week.
For more information about any of our events, pop into your local OnFife Library or give us a call. Contact details can be found on each individual library webpage.
