Fraser brings hit musical show back to his ‘local’ theatre
An acclaimed theatre writer and performer will be back on his old stomping ground and bringing his hit musical show to his ‘local’ theatre next month
Fraser Boyle, who grew up in Glenrothes, will see Hen Night Horror performed at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy on 14 and 15 October.
Fraser fondly recalls how a highlight of the year for him and his cousins growing up would be going to the pantomime at the Adam Smith Theatre with their granny.
But back then little did he think that he would be performing his own pantomimes and shows in that very same theatre.
“This is a really special moment for me,” said Fraser. “I grew up in Fife and my gran used to take me and my 26 cousins to the pantomime at the Adam Smith every year. It was the first theatre I ever went to and it’s where I caught the bug. I have such fond memories of the place.
“Twenty years ago, I left Fife to pursue a career in Scottish theatre, never quite knowing where that journey would take me. So, to come back 20 years later with a show that I’ve written and created with my bestie Ali Cleland feels incredibly special. The Adam Smith was my home theatre as a wee boy and now I get to bring my show home.
“I’m incredibly proud to be bringing Hen Night Horror to Kirkcaldy. It feels like the perfect full circle.”
The former Auchmuty High School pupil is a former member of Fife Opera and performed in The Magic Flute and Bitter Sweet at the Kirkcaldy theatre in his younger days.
Hen Night Horror is an original musical comedy-horror centred around the approaching wedding of Amanda, who not only has to deal with her warring bridesmaids but also discovers there is another presence threatening her big day
Fraser also co-wrote the scripts for The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty pantos which played at the Adam Smith Theatre in recent years.
He also won a Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) award in the Outstanding Panto category for his production of Mother Goose at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr in 2025 which he co-wrote and also appeared in.
“Hen Night Horror is a cracking show but the fact that it was co-written by a homegrown talent and that Fraser has such a strong affinity with the Adam Smith Theatre makes it all the more special,” said Karen Taylor, Community Events and Programme Manager.
