Told from the perspective of Skids co-founder Richard Jobson, the documentary wonderfully blends archival footage, new performances, and Jobson’s take on the band’s challenges as well as their creative approach to their music. Formed in Dunfermline in 1977 by Richard Jobson, Stuart Adamson, William Simpson, and Thomas Kellichan, the Skids were – as playfully outlined in the documentary – the Number 1 punk band in Scotland (albeit the only one!), whilst the punk movement was just starting out down South (with the Sex Pistols and the Clash).
Known for hits like “Into the Valley” and “The Saints Are Coming” in 1979 (the latter was famously covered by both U2 and Greenday), this film is an important social and cultural document for both Dunfermline and Scotland, capturing its legacy in the punk music scene.
