Peacock Cinema Presents: THE RED SHOES (PG)
Dunfermline-born Moira Shearer stars as a young ballet dancer, torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a prima ballerina.
Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s visually ravishing masterpiece. A young ballerina is torn between the demands
of love and art. Like the heroine of Hans Christian Andersen’s source fairytale, whose magic shoes compel her to dance,
Victoria Page (Moira Shearer) finds herself driven to breaking point by obsessive Russian impresario Lermontov (Anton Walbrook) when she’s cast in his ballet The Red Shoes.
Join us for the opening film of our Red Shoes Festival – a summer celebration of Scottish music and dance, centred on Dunfermline’s own Moira Shearer and the cultural places and people connected to her life and legacy and marking the centenary of her birth.
The Moira Shearer & The Archers strand is a wonderful centenary celebration of Dunfermline’s own film & ballet star.
This strand pays homage to her work alongside Michael Powell and Eric Pressburger’s British films.
