Peacock Cinema Presents: THE LITTLE MERMAID (U)

Screening as part of the Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales strand of the Red Shoes Festival.

Animated screen version of Hans Christian Andersen’s story of a mermaid named Ariel, who falls in love with an earthly prince.

Loosely based on the 1837 Danish fairy tale The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, the story follows a teenage mermaid princess named Ariel who dreams of becoming human and falls in love with a human prince named Eric, which leads her to forge an agreement with the sea witch Ursula to be with him.

Join us for first of our family screenings for The Red Shoes Festival – a summer celebration of Scottish music and dance, centred on Dunfermline’s own Moira Shearer and the cultural places and people connected to her life and legacy and marking the centenary of her birth.

Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales strand: Named after Hans Christian Anderson’s The Red Shoes, journey through the Danes’ fairytales from “deep under the sea” with the Little Mermaid to the shoe-tapping Emperor’s New Groove.

Dirs: Ron Clements, John Musker
Cast: Rene Auberjonois, Jodi Benson, Samuel E. Wright

Production Year: 1989

After the screening, why not join us for a free craft session? To celebrate the Red Shoes Festival we will be making red pom poms to decorate our shoes using red wool and forks so you can remember Moira everytime you look at your feet! Where will your red shoes lead you … ?
