Peacock Cinema Presents: I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING (PG)
Screening as part of the Moira Shearer & The Archers strand of The Red Shoes Festival.
Wendy Hiller and Roger Livesey star in this 1945 heady romantic comedy masterpeice, directed and written by the British filmmakers Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger
Headstrong young city girl Joan Webster (Wendy Hiller) sets off, wedding dress in tow, to marry a rich older man on his remote Hebridean island. But when stormy weather leaves her stranded on a neighbouring isle, she finds herself struggling to cope with the unplanned turn of events – and in particular, a surprising connection with the mysterious local laird (Roger Livesey). With flashes of folklore in its life-threatening whirlpools and ancient curses, Powell and Pressburger craft a metaphysical romance that’s disarming and enchanting in equal measure.
Join us for the final weekend of The Red Shoes Festival – a summer celebration of Scottish music and dance, centred on Dunfermline’s own Moira Shearer and the cultural places and people connected to her life and legacy and marking the centenary of her birth.
The Moira Shearer & The Archers strand is a wonderful centenary celebration of Dunfermline’s own film & ballet star. This strand pays homage to her work alongside Michael Powell and Eric Pressburger’s British films.
