Peacock Cinema Presents: CALIFORNIA SCHEMIN' (15)

Screening as part of the Scottish Music and Dance strand of The Red Shoes Festival.
In Scottish film star James McAvoy’s first film as a director, California Schemin’ follows an unlikely, but charismatic, rap duo from Dundee.
Based on a true story, Dundee duo, Billy Boyd (Samuel Bottomley) and Gavin Bain (Seamus Maclean Ross), have always dreamed of being rappers. However, there is one thing holding them back from being taken seriously – they’re Scottish!
The pair devise a cunning plan, and pretend to be from California, with fake accents and bleached hair. A riot of a film that closed Glasgow Film Festival this year.
Also starring James McAvoy and James Corden, California Schemin’ is set against the backdrop of a 1990s’ Dundee, and
provides a harsh look at the music industry, giving us behind-the-scene access.
Join us for the final weekend of The Red Shoes Festival – a summer celebration of Scottish music and dance, centred on Dunfermline’s own Moira Shearer and the cultural places and people connected to her life and legacy and marking the centenary of her birth.
Scottish Music strand: From Punk at the Pictures to Country music at the Carnegie, this strand takes you through the Scottish music scene. It even includes Dunfermline’s own ‘story of the Skids’.
Dir: James McAvoy
Cast: Samuel Bottomley, Seamus Maclean Ross, James McAvoy, James Corden, Lucy Halliday.
