This painted banner was carried in a mile-long parade in Dunfermline to celebrate the homecoming visit of world famous philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, in 1881. A special holiday was declared and 20,000 people walked through the town accompanied by marching bands, flags and banners. On the same day CarnegieÂs mother, Margaret, laid the foundation stone for the Dunfermline Carnegie Library. The Albany factory in Gardeners Street was part of the linen weaving business R E Walker, Reid & Co.
