Creative Soup success spurs Lewis to bring Fife stories to life
One of the winners in an innovate competition to support Fife’s creative community has been spurred on to make his idea to chronicle life in Fife a reality.
Lewis Harrower, a self-employed audio producer, scooped the People’s Choice prize in the very first Creative Soup event held at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy last year.
His appropriately called Life in Fife idea – to create an online audio archive and podcast recording the stories of groups, individuals, charities and businesses across the Kingdom to form an information hub – impressed those attending the event, earning him his prize.
Lewis was so encouraged by the enthusiasm of the public for his idea that he is now hoping to take it to the next level by launching a crowdfunding campaign to make it a reality.
He’s aiming to raise £5,000 to set up the project by providing resources to record and build an online home for the archive and podcast as well as supporting the production of the first run of recordings and podcasts.
Lewis said: “Fife has so much to offer and there are so many great stories in this Kingdom that never get told. I want to prevent the loss of local knowledge, highlight groups that people can get help from or volunteer with, and connect local communities.
“I want to make Life in Fife a space where people feel comfortable joining in the conversation and create a community where people can learn more about what is going on here.”
Lewis, from Dunfermline, studied at Fife College then went on to achieve a Masters in Radio at the University of Sunderland before returning to Scotland. He set up his own audio production company Time Capsule Productions in 2023. In this business Lewis records people’s life stories and hires audio guestbooks for events.
The project has already gained support, with local organisations like The Hive, the Carnegie Birthplace Museum, Kirkcaldy Gaming Society, the Levenmouth Project and Leslie Town Hall expressing interest.
After the success of last year’s Creative Soup event, the Design Suite, OnFife’s creative community hub at the Adam Smith Theatre, is already planning a second one – look out for that coming after the summer.
