Creative Soup: Stirring Up Something Special in Kirkcaldy
We recently hosted something a little different in the Adam Smith Theatre’s Beveridge Suite, and it proved to be a recipe for success.
Creative Soup brought together Fife based creatives for an evening of ideas, inspiration, and community, all with a shared goal: supporting local talent to bring projects to life. Delivered in partnership with CodeBase and Business Gateway Fife, the event celebrated the depth and diversity of creativity across the Kingdom.
We welcomed 66 attendees, raising £660 through ticket sales, which was boosted by the OnFife Relevant Kirkcaldy budget to create a £1000 prize pot, reinvested directly into local creative work.
Nine shortlisted creatives pitched their ideas to a panel of judges, in a supportive, community focused take on a Dragons’ Den style format. From jewellery and ethical fashion to life casting and performance spaces, the range of ideas showcased just how vibrant the local scene is.
The overall winner was Abi Cooper (Kirkcaldy) with Small Change Gallery, an Art Vending Machine designed to make affordable, locally created art accessible to all.
The audience also had their say, awarding the £300 People’s Choice prize, alongside mentoring from Business Gateway Fife to Lewis Harrower (Dunfermline) for his Life in Fife audio archive and podcast project.
And of course, true to its name, there was soup, creating space for conversation, connection, and idea sharing throughout the evening.
Creative Soup has grown from the Create in Kirkcaldy network and reflects a wider movement of grassroots, community powered funding for creative projects. What made this one special was the local energy behind it and the clear appetite for more.
This is just the beginning.
