Creative Soup event proves a tasty hit in celebrating and supporting talent
We celebrated Fife’s talent and brought the creative community together with an equally creative competition.
Creative Soup was the name of the event we organised in conjunction with CodeBase and Business Gateway Fife.
Members of the public got behind the event, held in the Adam Smith Theatre, with the 66 tickets sold going £660 towards the £1000 top prize
On the night a huge range of new creative talent was on display, from jewellery and ethical alternative clothing to yoga, life casting and performance space.
Nine of the top creatives made a presentation on their ideas to a panel of judges who then questioned them – like Dragons’ Den – before deciding who should win the prize.
The winner was Abi Cooper, of Kirkcaldy, with her proposal for an Art Vending Machine – a project to make affordable art accessible to everyone through a vending style machine selling a selection of work from local artists.
Members of the audience were also able to vote for their favourite, which was Lewis Harrower, of Dunfermline, with his Life in Fife audio archive and podcast project. He won a £300 prize as well as mentoring support.
Creative Soup was born from the Create in Kirkcaldy group, dedicated to supporting the creative industry in the Kirkcaldy and wider Fife area.
It provided an opportunity to local creatives, giving them access to funding using a crowdfunding approach, based on successful projects running in Dundee and Detroit in the USA.
