A wonderful historical novel of growing up in the shadow of World War 1.

The Skylarks War won the Costa Children’s Book Award in 2018.

Clarry and Peter’s mother died when Clarry was born and their father remained distant and often absent as they both grew up. However, the siblings live for their holidays in Cornwell with their grandparents and the many adventures with their cousin, Rupert.

Nothing can remain the same forever and the summers in Cornwall begin to change too. As Peter goes off to boarding school, Rupert goes off to fight in World War 1 and Clarry begins her own adventures and dreams of an Oxford education.
