Building Confidence Through Creativity: CLD & Easy Ps Programme

Over eight weeks, the Design Suite partnered with CLD Kirkcaldy to deliver a dynamic learning programme shaped entirely by the interests of the young people taking part. Together, we created a welcoming and inspiring space where participants could learn new skills, explore their creativity, and connect with one another.

Through a series of facilitated sessions, young people engaged with a wide range of creative activities, including zine making, artistic statements, 3D printing, drawing, and digital illustration. This variety allowed participants to experiment freely, discover new interests, and build confidence in their abilities.

As part of their experience, participants were also treated to a dress rehearsal of Adam Smith Theatre’s pantomime Aladdin. For some, this was their first ever pantomime, offering a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse into a live theatre production. Many came away with a new appreciation for the creativity, collaboration, and hard work that brings a performance to life.

A key success of the programme was supporting those who initially felt they were “not creative” to challenge that perception. By encouraging experimentation and providing a supportive environment, participants developed resilience, stepped outside their comfort zones, and found new ways to express themselves. As one young person shared, “Drawing challenges were my favourite as they challenged me and pushed me outside my comfort zone… we learned new things about ourselves.”

The programme culminated in a collection of work that participants are proud of—pieces they can keep and display as a lasting reminder of their creativity and growth. More importantly, it left them with increased confidence, a stronger sense of self-expression, and the knowledge that creativity is something they can continue to build on.
