Original transcripts taken from recordings made on 30.9.1993 – 7.10.1993 at the pensioners hut Thornton where the Thornton Railwaymens Oral History Sessions were held. Transcriptions were hand-written by Phil Astley in 1993 and word processed by Jayne Byers (26.2.1996) Subjects:Steam v Diesel, politics, economics of running Steam Locomotives, timekeeping, running on time, maintenance, railway humour. “An Account of Three Generations of Railwaymen”, written by Jack Mackie. The Railways are in Dave Mackies blood. His family have a long and proud connection with the industry. Dave, his father, grandfather and two of his uncles were train drivers between them clocking up a century of service on the Railways of Scotland.
