Off The Wall Exhibition of abstract photographs by Stan Morrow
"Off the Wall" is an exhibition of unusual and colourful abstract photographs by local photographer, Stan Farrow. The photographs are unique in that they are all extreme close-up images of paint patterns in graffiti. Shot from just a few centimetres away using a special macro lens to focus closely, the images capture the fine details of interaction between the paint, and the texture of the wall, and the effects of wind and rain. The original subject matter is unrecognisable, and in many ways some of these photographs are more reminiscent in appearance to the work of abstract painters such as Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock. The exhibition includes work that was included in Stan’s successful Visual Arts Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society at the end of last year. (The Fellowship is the RPS's highest level of award, and very few photographers attain this level of expertise).Exhibition runs until 4th Dec
Creative Ageing by Joyce Gunn Cairns
An exhibition of new work by highly regarded artist Joyce Gunn Cairns MBE and featuring many familiar Scottish faces, will run at Fifespace Gallery, Lochgelly Centre, from the 14th of October to the 20th of December as part of Luminate; Scotland’s Creative Ageing Festival.
This new collection, made up of drawings and large paintings, is in response to some of the many changes and challenges faced by people as they grow older. Taking inspiration from the title of Luminate as a festival, Gunn Cairns wanted to explore some of the many ways that ageing can change a person, and also the common feelings and experiences shared by people of a certain age.
Exhibition runs until Dec 20th 2013.
Support and funding for Craft & Visual Artists in Fife
In partnership with Creative Scotland and Fife Council, Fife Cultural Trust and Fife Contemporary Art & Craft are delighted to launch a new funding and support scheme for craft and visual artists.
The ‘Opportunities’ Grant is available to artists living or based in Fife to support projects with grants of up to £750 available. The scheme is also supporting three artists, over a 12 month period, with the ‘Next Steps’ and ‘First Steps’ programmes. These tailored support programmes will focus on personal, professional and creative development for the craft and visual artists and will include 1-1 mentoring. The bespoke programme is also likely to feature funding for research and travel, skills development and the creation of new work. One craft artist and one visual artist as well as one emerging artist will take part in the programme in this initial year.
