Sound Symphony by Ellie Griffiths
Sound Symphony is a highly interactive, sensory performance for young audiences with profound autism.
The show celebrates making music your own way by weaving together live classical instruments, singing and a wide range of weird and wonderful sounds.
Sound Symphony provides a sensory-rich environment, where the audience can feel the music through their whole body.
Ellie Griffiths is a performance maker who creates sensory theatre shows for anyone who does not like sitting still and quietly during a performance! Ellie has made shows for and with babies, toddlers, young people with complex needs, young people on the autistic spectrum and adults with dementia. She worked for Oily Cart as a performer and director for six years. She is also a Winston Churchill Research Fellow (2017).
Alongside ongoing research, Ellie co-created Barrowland Ballet’s Playful Tiger, the first part of this creative development programme exploring how improvisation and sensory approaches can lead to collaboration with young people with autism. Recent international projects include designing an inclusive, sensory art exhibition called Sinnerligt, which will tour galleries in Sweden over the next two years. Ellie has recently returned from Japan having worked on a project with fellow Scottish artist Geraldine Heaney to explore inclusive music approaches. In June 2019 Ellie will take up the post of Artistic Director for Oily Cart.
