Bruce Manson formed a steering group of volunteer expertise who further developed the ‘idea’ and created a thriving, pro-active group known as… The Markinch Heritage Group.> MHG was constituted in 2004. >Bruce Manson was voted in as Chairman and still remains the driving force behind the groups growing success and development. > The Group aims to: preserve the cultural, architectural, environmental heritage of Markinch by raising the profile of the town – what it has to offer historically and to caretake, preserve and document information about Markinch and its environs for future generations. > Eminent historians have been invited to give talks at MHG meetings which has mutually aided historic and cultural understanding of the ancient town of Markinch.> MHG has organised many public events with help from members, enthusiastic locals and volunteers and has cultivated strong links with like minded agencies in Markinch eg school, church,community groups, local shops, Markinch Community Council, Fife Council Archive Centre, Libraries, local businesses (eg Tullis Russell Paper Mill) as well as nearby universities and colleges…..> Research and information gathering is ongoing with a view to creating a unique historic resource which will be accessible to all > ORAL HISTORY recordings- interviews, actuality and soundscapes will be employed to compliment and ‘flesh-out’ research work already in progress. Master Recordings will be housed and archived in the Scotspeak Sound Archive, Fife Council Archive Centre, Markinch
