Summer Reading Challenge 2023

We’re so excited to introduce the Summer Reading Challenge 2023!

Ready, Set, Read! is a celebration of reading, play, games and sport at your local library this summer. Let’s keep young minds and bodies active over the holidays by taking part in this FREE reading challenge, encouraging reading for pleasure and picking up rewards along the way! Simply read six books, e-books or e-audio books from your local library to take part. They can be any books – of any size, shape and topic you like.

Are you Ready? Set? READ!

Tell me more…

Each year, the Summer Reading Challenge has a new theme. This year, the Ready, Set, Read! superstar team – Naveen, Naomi, Noah, Sophia, Ollie and Alesha – and their animal mascots need your help. Sophia has created an obstacle course for her friends, and to complete it they will need to work as a team using skills like balance, co-ordination, resilience and creative thinking to complete the course. Hidden along the obstacle course are six golden books – and they need your help to find them. You will get stickers featuring the golden books every time you read to add to your score card.

Children aged 4-11 are invited to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge and collect rewards at every stage for their reading.
The challenge starts in all our libraries and mobile libraries from Saturday 24th June and runs until Saturday 26th August.

What do you need to do?

Borrow and read any six library books, e-books or audiobooks over the school holidays. The challenge starts on Saturday 24th June. When you register you will get your ‘score card’ featuring all the characters from Ready, Set, Read!. This is where you can record all your books and add your golden book stickers.

What are the rewards?

For every two books you read, you’ll also receive special rewards from OnFife . These rewards include pencils, bookmarks, frisbees and door hangers. When you have read all six books, you get an awesome wooden medal, a certificate and entry into our finishers prize draw to win one of seven £20 Amazon vouchers OR a free author visit to your school during Book Week Scotland!

Not only that, we will have LOADS of events, crafts and stories taking place in our venues, as well as FREE activity sheets, a scavenger hunt and games. See the events information and booking links at the bottom of this page.

How do I join?

Simply come into any of our libraries or mobile libraries to sign up to the challenge from Saturday 24th June. You must be a library member to join so if you’re not we can easily join you up when you visit.
